CapaInstaller SDK Can't Get SQL Server Information

A script that uses the CapaInstaller SDK fails with error code 80131500 and this message:

Unable to recieve SQL Server Information

The SDK writes its log to %ProgramFiles%\CapaInstaller\Logs\SDK\SDK.log on the computer that runs the script.

The SDK reads the SQL Server and database name from the database settings of the Windows user account that runs the script. The CapaInstaller Console saves these settings for each user the first time that user starts the console. If the account that runs the script has never started the console on that computer, the SDK finds no database settings.

This often happens when the script runs as a service account or a scheduled task, instead of as your own user.

  1. On the computer where the script runs, start the CapaInstaller Console as the account that runs the script. For example, right-click the console shortcut while you hold Shift, and select Run as different user.
  2. In the database connection dialog, enter the SQL Server and SQL Database, and select the logon method. See Database Connection settings.
  3. Close the console.
  4. Run the script again.

The script connects to the database, and the error no longer appears.
