CapaInstaller Windows Agent
Each client must have the CapaInstaller Agent installed. The agent starts all management tasks by checking in with the system at regular intervals. Each time it runs, it collects inventory information about the client and checks the Management Server for new packages for that client. It then runs the new packages and returns status and inventory information to the Management Server.
The agent consists of the components in the table below. The health check and the CapaInstaller Stub Service keep the agent files up to date automatically, and the CapaInstaller Stub Service can update itself.
Agent components

| CapaInstaller Agent.exe | The agent program. It’s located in <Program Files>\CapaInstaller\Agent on each client computer. You can customize the folder in System Administration with the Configure Agent menu item of the Management Server or Configuration Management Point. See Configuring the Agent. |
| CapaInstaller Agent.xml | The configuration file of the agent. It’s located in the same folder as CapaInstaller Agent.exe. It holds the service account settings, intervals, delays and folder settings. The file is the combined configuration file for the CapaInstaller Agent, the CapaInstaller Stub Service and CapaInstaller InfoCenter. |
| CIStub.exe (CapaInstaller Stub Service) | The service part of the agent. CIStub always runs as an automatic service. The stub and the agent are separate files because CIStub can change its own account settings. This way, CIStub makes sure that CapaInstaller Agent.exe runs in the desired context: either the local system account or a named account. CIStub.exe is located in the <Program Files>\CapaInstaller\Services\CIStub folder. |
| CiBaseAgent.exe (CapaInstaller BaseAgent Service) | Provides the basic communication functionality for CapaInstaller, for example with the Front-end Service. See BaseAgent Service. |
| CapaInstaller InfoCenter.exe | A two-purpose utility. First, it communicates with the logged-on user, typically with accept or reject dialogs for new software packages. Second, it lets the user interact with the CapaInstaller client software. From the system tray, the user can start CapaInstaller Agent.exe, either in the user’s own context or in the computer context through CIStub. See CapaInstaller InfoCenter. |
| CIInstSvc.exe (CapaInstaller Service Health Service) | The service that installs and repairs CapaInstaller services on the client and runs the agent health check. See CapaInstaller Agent Health Check. |
Agent modes
Section titled “Agent modes”The agent runs in two modes:

| Computer | When started with the COMPUTER command-line parameter, the agent runs computer packages and collects information about the client computer, such as hardware and software inventory. CIStub starts the agent in this mode. |
| User | When started with the USER command-line parameter, or without a parameter, the agent runs user packages. InfoCenter starts the agent in this mode in the context of the logged-on user. |
