Assign Deployment Template

You use a deployment template by linking it to an OS Point, a Business Unit, or an Installation type. Only templates that have been synchronized from the CapaOne portal are available for selection.

Which installation types are offered

When a client boots into OS Deployment, the OSD client offers the installation types of the unit’s Business Unit. If the Business Unit has no installation types, the OSD client offers the installation types of the OS Point instead.

How the template is resolved

For the installation type that is selected on the client, the deployment template is resolved in the following order:

1. The template linked to the selected installation type.
2. The template linked to the Business Unit that the unit belongs to.
3. The template linked to the OS Point that is used.

If the template specifies an image or a disk configuration, the OSD client uses it and hides that selection in the OSD GUI. If the template leaves the image or the disk configuration empty, the user selects it in the OSD GUI.

Note

An installation type is shown as not ready in the OSD client if the image or disk configuration in its template hasn’t been promoted to the OS Point, or if the image is still waiting to be synchronized to the OS Deployment server. If the image can’t be found at all, synchronize with CapaOne again. See Synchronize between CapaOne and CMS Installation.
