Deploy Distribution Server
A Distribution Server caches packages close to the client computers and minimizes bandwidth use during package installation. It doesn’t handle unit requests itself. You deploy it by enabling the Distribution Server role on an existing Base Agent. For background, see Distribution Server (BAADS).
- In System Administration, right-click the Management Server under which the Distribution Server should be located, and select Deploy Server.
- On the Select server type page, click Distribution Server.
- In BaseAgent, type the name of the Base Agent computer. The field suggests Windows agents that don’t already have a Distribution Server on this Management Point.
- Set the Distribution Server configuration:
- Service Mode: how the server gets packages.
- Preload Schedule: when packages are preloaded, if the service mode preloads packages. The schedule is optional.
- Cache Location, CacheMaxSize, and CacheMinFree: where the cache is stored, how large it can get, and how much free disk space to keep.
- Max Requesters: the maximum number of clients that can request files at the same time.
- Click Next.
- Enter one or more IP ranges or MAC addresses. Client computers in these ranges use this Distribution Server. Click Next.
- Enter a Name for the server and a Change description, and click Next.
The wizard creates the Distribution Server, and it appears under the Management Server. When you select it, the list view shows its CPU and memory use.
For details about the service modes and cache settings, see Deployment.
