System Administration options

The following is a description of the options for System Administration. To open them, select Tools → Options…, and then select System Administration. The settings apply to the whole CapaInstaller system, not only to your console.

Click Browse to select an Active Directory group as the CapaInstaller administrator. This Active Directory group is added with read/write access to the folders containing the Management Points.

When set, this determines which Management Point computers and devices enroll in by default.

If no Management Point is set in an enrollment configuration for the device, the device uses the default Management Point.

Select Use FQDN in MgmtServers.xml to use fully qualified domain names instead of NetBIOS names for the servers in the management server list (MgmtServers.xml).

The agent service responds to rerun requests on one of these ports: Primary communication port, Secondary port, and Alternative port. The console uses these ports, for example, when it restarts agents directly. Each port must be from 1 to 65535.

Patch Management service communication ports

Section titled “Patch Management service communication ports”

The Patch Management service communicates with the console on these ports when it organizes updates: Primary communication port, Secondary port, and Alternative port.

These settings specify how many days the Performance Guard data is kept in the CapaInstaller database.

Element Description

Store average data The number of days average data is kept, from 1 to 360.

These settings are general settings relevant across multiple plugins.

Element Description
Enable Auto Find on the find form Automatically runs the search on the find form while you type, without having to click Find.

Auto close search on Enter When Auto Find is enabled, pressing Enter in the find form returns the result and closes the form.
Show units with fully qualified name/user principal name Units are shown with a fully qualified domain name or user principal name across the CapaInstaller Console. Requires a restart of the console.
Show Primary User Name In Computer and Device Name The primary user is shown as a part of the computer or device name. Requires a restart of the console.

Synchronization services use the Internal synchronization port to communicate in internal network environments. Changing the port requires a restart of the Synchronization service.

When more than one server requests the same package, it’s advisable to reuse the compressed files. A package that has been compressed and transferred to the requesting server then remains on the source server for a specified period of time before it’s deleted.

Element Description
Enable Turns on reuse of compressed files for servers requesting the same package.
Time to keep reused files How many minutes the compressed files are kept. When a file is requested again, its lifetime is reset to this value.
Amount of disk space to preserve The amount of free space, in GB, that must remain on the source server. If the free space falls below this threshold, the reuse of compressed files is disabled.

Distribution servers are often installed as stand-alone servers. The agent can’t connect to them with its LocalSystem credentials, so it needs additional credentials to access the shares.

Select Enable and enter the user credentials to let the agent connect to the shares with the specified local user. This user account is created on the distribution server and granted rights to access the necessary files and shares when the distribution server is deployed.

On existing distribution servers, you must manually make sure that the user exists and is a member of the CapaInstallerAgents group.

To perform AMT operations, you must configure AMT credentials: a user name and password that match the configuration on the AMT-enabled computers.

Select Attempt the use of AMT wake up in WOL operations to make the Replicator also try an AMT wake-up when it receives Wake On LAN requests. The Replicator always sends a standard Wake On LAN packet. When this setting is enabled, it also attempts an AMT wake-up.

The WOL Port number is the port used by services that send Wake On LAN requests. If it isn’t set, the default port 40000 is used.

Select which parts of the system are monitored by the global Replicator task System Health. If a part is disabled, no notifications are created for that part of the system. You can select OS Deployment, Conscom, Patch Management Points and Groups, Syncjob, Service Version, and Service Down.

When Service Down is selected, you can also select which services are checked: Synchronization, Replicator, Data Connection, Back-end, Patch Management, CiBoot, Front-end, and Mobile Device Management.

For more information, go to System Notification.
