CapaInstaller Agent Stops Working

The CapaInstaller agent on a computer stops working as expected. For example, the agent doesn’t run, doesn’t report inventory, or doesn’t install packages.

The agent depends on two Windows components:

  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The CapaInstaller Agent Service depends on the WMI service (Winmgmt) and doesn’t start without it.
  • The .NET Framework. The agent service and the agent run on .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later.

If either component is damaged, the agent stops working. Check them in this order.

Solution 1 - Windows Management Instrumentation

Run these commands from an elevated command prompt on the affected computer.

  1. Check the WMI repository:

    winmgmt /verifyrepository
  2. If the result says that the repository isn’t consistent, try to repair it:

    winmgmt /salvagerepository
  3. Run winmgmt /verifyrepository again. If the repository is still not consistent, reset it:

    net stop winmgmt
    winmgmt /resetrepository
    net start winmgmt
  4. Restart the CapaInstaller Agent Service and test the agent again.

  1. Download the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool from Microsoft.
  2. Run the tool and follow the instructions on the screen. The tool detects problems and applies fixes.
  3. Restart the computer when the repair completes.
  4. Test the agent again.
