Using external tools

External tools let you run third-party programs directly from the CapaInstaller Console.

Examples:

• Remotely control a device or computer
• Reboot a remote computer
• Ping or lookup a device or computer
• View a remote log file on the selected computer

You don’t need to open a command prompt and type commands. When you have added the command and its parameters as described in Adding external tools, the tool is available in the right-click menu for computers, mobile devices and users.

Launch an external tool

1. Go to Configuration Management.
2. Locate a device, user or computer.
3. Right-click it and expand the External tools menu.
4. Select the external tool in the list.

Connecting to a remote client with a Remote Desktop external tool

Caution

External tools that interact directly with client machines, such as Remote Desktop and the Remote Task Manager, can sometimes be blocked by Windows security settings, especially if a local firewall is running on the client. You may need to make special client configurations to ensure that they will accept your attempts to manage them with your external tools.
