Update detection

The CapaInstaller Console checks its version against the CapaInstaller database, so all console installations run the same version as the rest of the system. This prevents an older console from making changes that the current system doesn’t expect.

When CapaInstaller is updated, the new console version is registered in the database. The console compares its own version with the registered version when it starts, and every 2 minutes while it’s running. If the version in the database is higher, the console needs to be updated before you can continue working.

The console then tries to update itself:

  • If the self-update requirements are met, the console installs the new version and restarts.
  • If the self-update requirements aren’t met, the console tells you that it can’t update itself and closes. Update the console by installing the new version on the computer, or ask your system administrator to fix the self-update requirements.

For the requirements and the messages you can see, go to Host SelfUpdate.

The console also checks the version of the database when it starts. If the database version is lower than the version the console requires, the console tells you that the database isn’t compliant and closes. Plugins that require a newer database version than the one you’re connected to aren’t loaded.
