Service Installation Service Health Check Service

The Service Installation Service/Health Check Service has two purposes:

  • The Service Installation part runs a command file with the commands that install a CapaInstaller service.
  • The same service acts as a scheduler for the health check script, hence the Health Check Service name.

The service is based on Visual Basic 6 and doesn’t require Microsoft .NET Framework. Because of that, it can also install the .NET Framework as part of a service installation. The service is x86 only and runs in x86 context on 64-bit Windows.

Element Description
Health Check Script This script makes sure that the components of the CapaInstaller Agent and Client are available and installed. If the script can’t repair the components automatically, it returns the unhealthy state to the CapaInstaller database if possible.
Interval The interval is set in the Agent Configuration in the System Administration plugin. The CapaInstaller Agent Service writes the interval to the registry for the health check service: HKLM\Software\CapaSystems\CapaInstaller\Utilities\HealthCheck, value Interval (DWORD), in seconds. In addition, the health check runs if more than 24 hours have passed since it last ran.
Trigger To start the health check script, set the registry value HKLM\Software\CapaSystems\CapaInstaller\Utilities\HealthCheck, value Run (string), to True. The service resets the value to False when it starts the script. The Agent service can set the value to make sure that the agent is healthy before it runs the agent (certain conditions apply).
