View AutoSteps log files

Symptom: You can’t view the log files for AutoSteps because the AutoSteps icon is missing.

Even if the AutoSteps icon is missing, you can still view the log files in two different ways:

  • Find the AutoSteps logs in File Explorer AutoSteps setup creates a Scout folder under the local application data folder, with the subfolders ExecutionDir, Logs, and WatchDir. The log files are in the Logs folder, typically %LocalAppData%\Scout\Logs. The exact paths are stored in the Logs, ExecutionDir, and WatchDir values under the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CapaSystems\Scout.
  • Start AutoSteps to make the icon visible The icon isn’t shown until AutoSteps has been started. Run the AutoSteps application file in C:\Program Files\PerformanceGuard\AutoSteps. Then right-click the AutoSteps icon AutoSteps notification area icon and select Open. File Explorer opens the folder that contains ExecutionDir, Logs, and WatchDir.
