Application Activity Widget

The Application Activity Widget shows the activity on an application by presenting how many unique computers have accessed the application within a certain time period.

The widget can show this information about any application - including web-based activities that your PerformanceGuard administrator has defined. You can use the widget to gain more specific information than is provided by event monitoring. This in turn can help you identify the application(s) when particular colleagues use it.

The following steps must be done before you can set up and start using the Widget:

  • Define an application

You have to define the application in Network Applications before you can set up the widget. PerformanceGuard automatically creates an Application Online event when an application has been created.
Technically, your administrator sets up PerformanceGuard applications to define this.

  • Create Event Rules

Administration → Event management → Event rules
You can set up rules as Sever / Port (server-based application activity) or Transaction (web-based application activity):

  • Transaction - Application Online

    • Your PerformanceGuard administrator has set up transaction filters, if not then simply create new and then create new event rule.
  • IP Service - Application Online

    • Your PerformanceGuard administrator has set up Server / Port groups, if not then simply create new and then create new event rule.

Before you set up the widget, find out if your administrator has set up the event rules described above that you want to view in the widget.

When you’re ready to add the widget to a dashboard, select the required information in the widget setup menus.

In Configure the number of allowed computers, you can enter the number of computers that are allowed to use the application. If more computers are seen, the widget changes color. Leave the field empty to turn this off. You can use multiple widgets to set different values for different locations.

Your PerformanceGuard administrator has typically set up the widget to display applications on your dashboard.
When that’s the case, you can simply use the Locations and Applications menus in the top part of the dashboard to view the number for computers for selected Time Period.

The widget displays the application name and number of computers showing activity for the selected locations.
