Computer Process Chart

This graph plots process values for a particular process on a particular computer.

To view the chart, select ANALYZE > Computers > Computer Search, and search for a computer. Then, in the search results, click the name of the required computer, and then select the Process Chart tab.

• Processes: Select the process that you want to view information about. See the Agent Configuration Group Settings in the relevant agent configuration group for details about process filter criteria.

Tip

The list by default shows each instance of a process. To view all instances of a process as one, select Summarize by process name.

Caution

The list shows processes that have run in the selected interval. If you change the interval, the content of the processes list may change.

Caution

IP data process information is not collected on computers that run Windows XP.

• Summarize by process name: Several individual instances of a process may run simultaneously. Select the check box to combine all such instances of a process into one for a simplified view.
• Type: Select the type of information that you want to view. See Computer Process Table for details on the different types of information.

What's a handle?

Handles are a type of identifying links between processes and Windows. All threads inside processes have handles. If handles are not closed when they’re no longer required, they can needlessly use more and more of the computer’s memory (also known as leaking). Thus, a high number of handles is not in itself a problem, but if the graph shows that the number of handles constantly grows without going down again, you are likely to have a performance problem.

• Interval: Select the period of time that the graph should cover. If the predefined intervals don’t suit you, select Custom to Custom Time Periods on Graphs.
