Manage SMTP Notification Service
PerformanceGuard has an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) service that makes it possible to send notifications and reports via e-mail. The SMTP service thus plays an important role if your event setup involves e-mail notifications (see Manage Thresholds and Events), or if you e-mail reports.
For the SMTP service to work you must provide PerformanceGuard with information about the mail server that you want to use:
-
Select ADMINISTRATION > Setup > SMTP.
-
Under Main SMTP host, specify the following:
-
SMTP host: The mail server that you want to use for distributing notifications. Example: mail.organization.org
-
SMTP port: Port number on which to communicate with the mail server. The default is 25.
-
SMTP sender: The e-mail address that you want to appear as the sender of your notifications.
-
Use login/password: Some mail servers require authentication. Ask your mail server administrator if in doubt. If authentication is required, select the check box and specify the Login and Password.
-
-
Optionally, select Enable Backup SMTP host and specify a Backup SMTP host, Backup SMTP port and Backup SMTP sender, and, if required, Use login/password with a Login and Password for the backup host.
The backup SMTP host serves as a secondary mail server that’s only used if PerformanceGuard can’t send an e-mail through the main mail server. PerformanceGuard tries the main mail server first every time it sends an e-mail. The backup SMTP host is only used if you specify both a backup host and a backup sender.

Click Save.
To check whether report e-mails are waiting to be sent, see the Email Delivery tab in System Status. Unsent notification e-mails are listed under ADMINISTRATION > Event Management > Unsent Notifications.
