Agent Upgrade

If you upgrade from agent version 6.0.x or newer

Install or deploy the new PerformanceGuard agent version. You don’t need to remove the previously installed agent first. The installer removes the old version and keeps the agent’s settings: server address, port, configuration group, agent ID, service start delay and encryption. Parameters that you specify on the command line or in the wizard replace the existing settings. See Install PerformanceGuard Agents.

If you upgrade from agent version 5.x or older

1. Remove the old PerformanceGuard agent version (computer restart not required).

   Caution

   The agent ID isn’t removed from the computer’s registry when the agent is removed. Therefore, the agent keeps its agent ID when you install the new version.

2. Install the new PerformanceGuard agent version in exactly the same way as you would do on a first-time installation.

Custom encryption when you upgrade

Custom encryption (agent version 7.4 or newer) is optional when you upgrade an agent. You can turn it on during the upgrade:

• Installation wizard: Specify the settings under Custom Encryption in exactly the same way as on a first-time installation, see Install PerformanceGuard Agents.
• Silent installation: Add the ENCRYPTION and AESKEY parameters to the command line, see Custom encryption.

Tip

We recommend custom encryption, because it encrypts all communication between the agents and the frontend server.

Get the latest agent version

From agent version 8.2, you have these options:

• Update agents automatically: Select Enable Agent self-update using CapaOne (requires agent internet access) in the agent configuration group. The agents then check for and install new versions themselves. See Update Agents Automatically.
• Download the agent in your browser: Download the latest agent installer from the PerformanceGuard web interface.
• Download and install with a generated PowerShell command: Let PerformanceGuard generate a command that downloads and installs the latest agent, optionally with a log file. The command requires PowerShell.
