Configure Windows Update
Configures Windows Update policies, including WSUS settings, update deferral, and restart behavior. Best practice: enable Use WU Server and set WUServer/WUStatusServer when updates must come from internal WSUS instead of Microsoft Update.
Parameters
Section titled “Parameters”Do Not Connect To Windows Update Internet Locations
Section titled “Do Not Connect To Windows Update Internet Locations”Optional — Default: False
Blocks the device from contacting Microsoft Windows Update on the internet. Enable only when updates are sourced exclusively from an internal WSUS or similar server.
Target Release Version
Section titled “Target Release Version”Optional — Default: True
Pins the device to the Windows release specified in Target Release Version Info. When disabled, the device follows normal Windows feature update targeting.
Target Release Version Info
Section titled “Target Release Version Info”Optional — Default: 25H2
The Windows feature update release the device should stay on or move to, for example 24H2 or 25H2. Only takes effect when Target Release Version is enabled.
Set Auto Restart Notification Disable
Section titled “Set Auto Restart Notification Disable”Optional — Default: False
Suppresses Windows Update notifications about an upcoming automatic restart. Enable to hide restart notifications from users.
Branch Readiness Level
Section titled “Branch Readiness Level”Optional — Default: General Availability Channel
Controls the Windows Update servicing channel for feature updates. Allowed values: Windows Insider Fast, Windows Insider Slow, Release Preview, General Availability Channel, General Availability Channel (pre-release).
Defer Feature Updates Period In Days
Section titled “Defer Feature Updates Period In Days”Optional — Default: 30
Number of days feature updates are delayed before being offered to the device. Valid range: 0–365. Pause Feature Updates Start Time

Date and time from which feature updates are paused. Expected format: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss. Leave empty to clear any existing pause.
Set Auto Restart Deadline

Enforces a mandatory restart deadline after updates are installed. When disabled, Windows uses its default restart behavior.

Number of days Windows waits before forcing a restart for quality updates. Only applies when Set Auto Restart Deadline is enabled. Valid range: 2–30. Allowed values: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.

Set Auto Restart Required Notification Dismissal

Controls how restart-required notifications can be dismissed by the user. When disabled, Windows uses its default dismissal behavior.

Sets how restart-required notifications are dismissed. Only applies when Set Auto Restart Required Notification Dismissal is enabled. Allowed values: Auto dismissal, User dismissal required.
Set Compliance Deadline
Section titled “Set Compliance Deadline”Optional — Default: True
Enforces compliance deadlines for Windows Update installation and restart behavior. When disabled, deadline-based enforcement is not configured.

Configure Deadline Grace Period

Additional days granted after a deadline is reached before Windows enforces a restart. Only applies when Set Compliance Deadline is enabled. Valid range: 0–7. Allowed values: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
Defer Quality Updates
Section titled “Defer Quality Updates”Optional — Default: True
Delays quality updates before they are offered to the device. The delay period is set by Defer Quality Updates Period In Days.

Number of days quality updates are delayed before being offered to the device. Only applies when Defer Quality Updates is enabled. Valid range: 0–30. Allowed values: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.
Pause Quality Updates Start Time

Use WU Server
Section titled “Use WU Server”Optional — Default: False
Enable to scan against an internal WSUS server instead of Microsoft Update. Disable to use Microsoft Update. When enabled, set WUServer (and optionally WUStatusServer).
WSUS Server URL
Section titled “WSUS Server URL”Optional
URL to the internal WSUS update server, for example http://wsus.contoso.local:8530. Used only when Use WU Server is enabled.
WSUS Status Server URL
Section titled “WSUS Status Server URL”Optional
URL to the WSUS reporting/status server. Leave empty to use the same value as WSUS Server URL.
No Auto Update
Section titled “No Auto Update”Optional — Default: False
Disables automatic Windows Update. When enabled, updates are not downloaded or installed automatically.
AU Options
Section titled “AU Options”Optional — Default: Download and install on schedule
Sets the automatic update behavior. Allowed values: Notify before download, Download automatically, notify before install, Download and install on schedule, Allow local admin to configure.
Automatic Maintenance Enabled
Section titled “Automatic Maintenance Enabled”Optional — Default: True
Allows Windows Automatic Maintenance to install updates during scheduled maintenance windows. When disabled, maintenance windows are not used for update installation.
Scheduled Install Day
Section titled “Scheduled Install Day”Optional — Default: Thursday
Day of the week for scheduled update installation. Allowed values: Every day, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Scheduled Install Time
Section titled “Scheduled Install Time”Optional — Default: 12
Hour of the day for scheduled update installation, in 24-hour format. Allowed values: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.
Scheduled Install Every Week
Section titled “Scheduled Install Every Week”Optional — Default: True
Repeats the scheduled installation every week on the configured day and time. When disabled, the schedule runs less frequently.
Allow MU Update Service
Section titled “Allow MU Update Service”Optional — Default: True
Allows Microsoft Update to provide updates for other Microsoft products in addition to Windows, such as Office and Visual C++ Redistributables.
